New hotels and lodges in South Africa and beyond
A fresh collection of hotel and lodge openings is adding new depth to the travel offering across South Africa and further afield. From a quiet garden retreat in Cape Town to new safari outposts in the Serengeti, here are some of the most notable launches for 2025 and 2026:
The Claremont, Cape Town
As of 1 September 2025, the much-loved Andros Boutique Hotel in Claremont will officially become part of the Sabi Sabi Collection and reopen as The Claremont. Located in Cape Town’s southern suburbs, the property will offer guests a refined base surrounded by leafy gardens, within easy reach of the city.
Club Med Tinley, KwaZulu-Natal
South Africa’s first Club Med is set to open in July 2026 on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast. Club Med Tinley will offer beachside relaxation paired with inland safari options, all in a fully inclusive format. While still under development, it’s already generating forward interest for group and FIT bookings.
Morea House, Camps Bay
Morea House, Cape Town’s first Autograph Collection hotel, is slated to open in the third quarter of 2025. Located just steps from the iconic Camps Bay Beach, this elegant sanctuary will feature 90 meticulously designed guestrooms, each inspired by the natural beauty of the region. Guests can enjoy a stunning terrace with sweeping ocean views, a chic tapas restaurant and bar, and a fusion of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. The hotel will also offer wellness experiences, including yoga sessions and signature treatments at the spa.
Spier Hotel, Stellenbosch
Spier Hotel reopened in March this year following an extensive renovation. The updated interiors and refreshed guest experience remain rooted in Spier’s commitment to sustainability, local food, and art. It continues to be one of Stellenbosch’s most loved and established winelands properties.
Simbavati Musabi Plains, Serengeti, Tanzania
Set in the central Serengeti near the Grumeti River, Simbavati Musabi Plains opened this month and is an intimate new luxury tented camp with just six suites, including a family unit. The lodge offers expansive views, private game drives, bush walks, and night safaris in a quiet and remote setting.
Simbavati Mara, Serengeti
Opening mid-June 2025, Simbavati Mara will sit high on a ridge overlooking the Mara River, with five tents and a family suite. With access to the migration corridor and dramatic views of the surrounding plains, it promises an exceptional East African safari experience.
These openings signal exciting new options for leisure travellers and incentive groups alike, offering fresh experiences and standout properties across Southern and East Africa.
MICE – More than meetings
Africa’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector has stepped up, evolving from traditional meetings into platforms that deliver immersive, experience-led engagements. Organisers are crafting curated buyer journeys enhanced by cutting-edge technology and strengthened through authentic local partnerships.
This approach creates meaningful connections and ensures events go beyond transactional meetings to foster real business impact. Buyers now arrive with clear intent, ready to engage with purpose, collaboration, and transformative experiences that reflect the unique character of each destination.

This level of care and professionalism not only enhances comfort but also allows guests to fully embrace the unique moments and adventures that define an unforgettable African journey.
A rising safari and coastal gem
Tanzania is gaining momentum as a premier safari destination, offering unparalleled wildlife encounters alongside quieter, lesser-known parks and conservation areas. The Serengeti and Ngorongoro remain timeless favourites, while regions like Tarangire and Ruaha attract travellers seeking untouched wilderness.
Complementing these adventures is Zanzibar, whose spice markets, pristine beaches, and vibrant culture provide the perfect post-safari retreat. This combination of wild safari and coastal relaxation is helping Tanzania position itself as a complete and authentic travel experience, appealing to a growing global audience.
