Day 1: Cape Town

Welcome to Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautiful cities! On arrival you will collect your rental car and drive to your chosen hotel or guest house. Afternoon at your own leisure. Suggested activities – visit the V&A Waterfront with its many shops, restaurants and pubs. It is also the departure point for boat trips to Robben Island, the island most famous for being a prison island. It is advisable to pre-book your tour to Robben Island – speak to your hotel’s concierge or travel desk on arrival to book the trip for you. Also well worth a visit at the V&A Waterfront is the Two Oceans Aquarium which has received great recognition as being one of the best aquariums in the world.

Day 2 & 3: Cape Town

Days at leisure. Suggested activities:

  • Do a day trip in your rental car to witness the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans at Cape Point. Be sure to make a stop at Boulder’s Beach Penguin Colony

  • Travel to the top of Table Mountain for spectacular views of the city, sea and distant mountains

  • Visit the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

  • Spend some time on some of Cape Town’s beautiful beaches such as Clifton and Camps Bay

  • Take in the highlights of Cape Town City Centre such as Company Gardens, Greenmarket Square and the nearby Bo-Kaap area

  • Join a township tour together with a local guide.

Day 4: Cape Town to Stellenbosch

Breakfast followed by checkout. Make your way to the Stellenbosch Winelands which are located approximately 45 minutes from Cape Town (ca 50 kms). Other than being a university town with beautiful Cape Dutch architecture it is also South Africa’s premier wine district. Take the opportunity to drive out to some of the most well known wine estates and sample their fine wines. Vineyards well worth a visit in the Stellenbosch area: Rust-en-Vrede, Kanonkop, Warwick Estate, Rustenburg and many more.

DAY 5: Stellenbosch & Franschhoek Winelands

Breakfast at your hotel. Franschhoek is a town nearby to Stellenbosch and is also famous for its wonderful wines as well as its French heritage. Here you will find many excellent restaurants with a number of them serving exquisite French cuisine. Examples of fine wine estates in the Franschhoek area: La Motte, Boschendal & Graham Beck. Restaurants in Franschhoek: Le Quartier Français – one of the top 50 restaurants in the world, Le Petite Ferme & Reuben’s Restaurant & Bar.

DAY 6: Stellenbosch to Oudshoorn

Breakfast followed by check out. Drive along the scenic R62 road past Robertson and Calitzdorp, arriving in Oudtshoorn in the afternoon (total driving distance approx. 400 km). If time permits you can visit one of the nearby ostrich farms and learn more about the world’s largest bird.

DAY 7: Oudshoorn to Knysna

Breakfast at your hotel. 30 km away from Oudtshoorn are the world famous Cango Caves. Be amazed at the size and form of these beautiful caves. Nearby the caves is the Cango Caves Wildlife ranch where you can, if you are brave, dive with crocodiles.

After lunch make your way towards the coast via George and on to Knysna. The distance of the journey is approximately 150 km. Knysna lies in the heart of the Garden Route and is a beautiful coastal town with indiginous forest on side and a lagoon on the other. The lagoon joins the sea between the majestic Knysna Heads. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon wandering through either the waterfront area or the recently developed Thesen Island.

DAY 8 & 9: Knysna

Days at leisure. Suggested activities:

  • You can embark on the Featherbed Experience, a boat trip along the Knysna Lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve on the western Head where you can enjoy a stroll in this beautiful reserve.

  • Knysna Elephant Park with its orphaned elephants is well worth a visit

  • Tsitsikamma National Park is a marine reserve 95 km east of Knysna and offers wonderful walks along the rugged coastline

  • For the brave at heart, you can experience the world’s highest bungee jump at 183 metres off the Bloukrans River Bridge. If you do not want to take the plunge you can always try the flying fox – a giant slide across the gorge. One can also just pay to walk and watch the bungee jumpers hurl themselves off the edge.

  • Another activity well worth trying is the canopy tour where you slide from tree to tree in the indigenous forest.

  • If the weather permits you can visit nearby Plettenberg Bay and enjoy some time on one of the beautiful beaches.

DAY 10: Knysna to Eastern Cape Game Reserve

Breakfast followed by check out. Drive eastwards past Port Elizabeth to your chosen game lodge (approx 4-41⁄2 hours, 330 km). Arrive in time for lunch. In the late afternoon you head out for a game drive in open 4×4 vehicles. After several hours you stop to enjoy a spectacular sunset with a sundowner drink and snacks before returning to the lodge in the dark, where you may be lucky to spot a rare nocturnal animal with the aid of powerful torches. Dinner is served weather permitting under the African stars. Overnight at your chosen lodge.

DAY 11: Eastern Cape Game Reserve

Morning game activity followed by late breakfast. Several hours at your own leisure where you can either lie by the pool or enjoy reading on your deck. High tea followed by an afternoon game drive. A sumptuous dinner once again awaits you upon your return to the lodge. Overnight at your chosen lodge.

DAY 12: Checkout

Early morning game viewing activity followed by breakfast. After checkout make your way back to Port Elizabeth in time for your homeward-bound flight.
