Part Two of an incredible journey with our Belgian agents
Following on from our series of posts featuring an amazing fam trip with Belgian agents, the latter half of our sizzling six-day itinerary leaves Route 62, taking in the sensational Garden Route, travelling from Barrydale to George and finally, Plettenberg Bay…
Day Four of our route sees us say adieu to Route 62 as we leave Barrydale, hitting the road for George and the fabulous Fancourt where we were treated to a lovely lunch following an informative educational tour of this amazing destination’s facilities. After lunch it was off to Sedgefield to look at the beautiful Simbavati Fynbos on Sea before arriving at Laird’s Lodge just outside Plettenberg Bay – home of gorgeous beaches and incredible views.
Winter officially lasts from June to September, when spring kicks in and the build-up to the annual rains begins. September and October see temperatures climb and by November the bush is begging for rain, but game viewing is at its zenith, with the vegetation sparse and wildlife focused on surviving until the rains begin, which hopefully they do by the end of spring.
This is when everything changes and life springs forth in abundance, as the life-giving rains soak the ground and the African bush turns from brown to green in a matter of weeks. Summer kicks off in December and lasts until the end of February, when autumn, or fall, takes over, seeing us through March, April and May. Summer is also known as the emerald season, when summer migrant birds fill the skies and the wilderness is lush and verdant and filled with baby animals of all kinds.
After a glorious night at Laird’s Lodge and an exceptional breakfast, we embarked on Day Five of our incredible journey along the Garden Route, heading out on a wonderful hike along the coastline before checking out the magnificent Plettenberg Hotel en-route to the Bloukrans Bridge and the thrill of the world’s highest bungee jump! Some of our agents were brave enough to try it! We then headed off to Cape St Francis for a calamari tasting and overnight stay at the Cape St Francis Resort.
Day Six of our fabulous fam trip with Belgian Agents saw us get up early for a truly spectacular beach walk, returning to Cape St Francis Resort for breakfast before heading out for the drive to Kariega Game Reserve and the last night of our journey at Kariega Main Lodge. After lunch at Kariega we climbed aboard an open game vehicle and explore the incredible wilderness, spotting wildlife along the way. We stopped for traditional sundowners before returning to the lodge for an amazing farewell boma dinner under the stars.
Our Belgian agents were up early on Day Seven for a final game drive and river cruise, bidding the South African wilderness a fond farewell before heading to Port Elizabeth airport for their flight back to Cape Town and connecting flight on Turkish Airways – our partner for this wonderful itinerary – returning to Brussels via Istanbul. What a trip!
