South Africa boasts some amazing golf courses. Golf Digest does a biennial 
survey on the country’s top 100 golf courses, and there are some noteworthy changes since the last one from 2014. The old Johannesburg club Glendower has moved up to number 4 and is now right behind the Big 3 of South African golf – Fancourt Links, Leopard Creek and the Gary Player Country Club. Another big mover is Durban Country Club which returns to the top 5 for the first time since 2009. There are also two new entries – the Ernie Els-designed Highland Gate near Dullstroom (pictured above) and Wedgewood GC just outside Port Elizabeth.
Despite being a top golf destination for tourists, the top-ranked course in Cape Town is Royal Cape GC, in a rather lowly 48th position. Johannesburg on the hand boasts no fewer than 8 courses in the top 30! The popularity of golf along
the Garden Route is reflected in 7 of the top 25 courses.
