2.Play around on South Africa’s oldest golf course
If you want a historical and grand golfing experience, head to the Royal Cape Golf Club in Cape Town, which dates back to 1885 and is the oldest golf club in South Africa. With a magnificent view of the glorious Table Mountain, this is one of South Africa’s most scenic courses and features numerous ponds, abundant bird life and brilliant USGA spec greens.
Make sure that you leave some time to enjoy a drink in the fantastic old clubhouse, which wraps around the putting green, creating a unique atmosphere.
South Africa’s Winelands should definitely not be missed. Tee off on the Peter Matkovich designed De Zalze Golf Course in the morning, and sip wine with your colleagues in the evenings. De Zalze Golf Club has the complete Winelands experience and offers travellers a great golf course, fantastic 19th hole views, fabulous food, great wines and stylish on-site lodge accommodation. The golf course has an excellent mix of parkland holes with its main challenges presented in the form of the water features on several holes, as well as the Oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the Golf Estate and comes into play at various intervals.
4.Take the ultimate golfing challenge – the Extreme 19th
Every self-respecting golfer needs – at least once in a lifetime – experience the challenge of the Extreme 19th, the most extreme golf hole in the world, at the Legend Golf & Safari Resort. The longest Par 3 in the world (400m horizontal distance), this hole also involves a 430m drop from tee to green. The only way to reach the tee-off is by helicopter. Talk about a unique experience! The remaining 18 holes of the Legend Golf & Safari Resort have been designed by 18 different leading golfers. The designers include Retief Goosen, Thomas Björn, Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia and Luke Donald.
5.Play at the home of the Million Dollar Golf Challenge
The Gary Player Golf Course in Sun City is home to the annual “Million Dollar Golf Challenge”. The course is challenging and is consistently ranked amongst the top 5 courses in South Africa. Gary Player used his know-how as a professional golfer to design this course. He understood perfectly what golfers would appreciate while designing a course that is challenging and enjoyable.
The strength of this golf course lies in the fact that it doesn’t favour any particular shot, and provides the same result whether playing the forward or intermediate tees. 8000 yards of golfing pleasure await each player with mesmerising views at every turn.
