Dutch Craftsmen help locals hone their skills at Kaya Mawa: For a portion of March, the team at Kaya Mawa had an amazing opportunity to host four extremely talented craftsmen from the Netherlands who came to the island to help train and hone their staffs’ skills over a range of areas. They had Didi who is an all-rounder/painter, David, another all-rounder who helped train the staff’s general plumbing skills with installing a new top feeding outlet for one of their rooms – an excellent team effort combining David’s know-how and the staff’s eagerness to learn! They also hosted Koos, an expert carpenter who collaborated with the lodge’s carpenters on new and creative ways to create beautifully handmade doors and windows for the rooms. Lastly, they had the plaster and concrete magician, Jamie.

New 9-Day Photographic Safari Tour: A new Photographic Safari with professional tuition is now available, during which avid photographers can turn their hobby into a passion and learn the basics and more about wildlife photography. The 9-day tour will see participants visit Malawi’s prime safari hotspot, Liwonde National Park. Liwonde has been at the centre of conservation success in recent years thanks to African Parks’ dedication to turn Malawi into a leading safari destination. The reserve has been restocked and now offers the chance of seeing all the Big 5 animals, perfect for those wishing to look to capture pictures of a range of amazing wildlife. There will also be time spent over the border in Zambia’s iconic South Luangwa National Park.

Rafiki Safari Camp join build of new Kindergarten and Community Resource Centre: Rafiki Safari Camp, on the edge of Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, has managed to prevail upon a small NGO called With Change in Mind (WCIM) to fund and assist with the building of a Kindergarten and Community Resource Centre in the local village. WCIM has undertaken numerous projects in Malawi including a similar project close to Senga Bay. The NGO obtains all funding from individual donors in the USA and welcomes donations from anyone with a desire to assist local communities. The land on which the school is being built was generously donated by the local village headman who has also offered the school the full use of water from his borehole.

Africa at Home: Bringing Africa to You!

Some of our travel partners have gone to great efforts to bring Africa to you as we endure the current travel restrictions. 360° video footage allows you to pan around the scenery and get a wonderful feel for a destination. The ‘Did you know: African Wildlife’ app gives you fascinating photographs, sounds and facts about the wildlife of South Luangwa National Park, Zambia

Did you know? Lions do most of their calling at night when the air is still and sound carries further? They also tend to call close to the ground, which acts a sounding board. The DYK app includes over 30 sounds and 200 stunning photos of African wildlife accompanied by interesting “Did you know” facts.
